Summer At The Beach

Feel the sand between your toes
Feel the water as it goes
Feel the warm summer clothes
Feel the breeze as it blows

Smell the moist summer air
Smell the seaweed stuck in your hair
Smell the children everywhere
Smell the clothing that they wear

Hear the seagulls in their motion
Hear the cheerful, sunny emotion
Hear the lapping waves of the ocean
Hear the pleasant family commotion

See the joyful summer sight
See the sun so very bright
See the kids play while it’s light
This summer feels just right

Room 6 is quite a crowd,

Mixed Media - Visual Art

You hold the future in your hands.

In Term 2 our Visual Arts focused was on Mixed Media. We finally finished our pieces of art at the end of the term. We started off by creating two hands, most of us copied our own hands as templates. One hand represents our past and the other hand our future. We used lots of different materials and symbols to make our artwork as well as exploring a range of different techniques with water colour paint. This is my art work.

St Peter's Music Concert

On Thursday 31st October St Peter's College came to our school to preform for us. There were lots of instruments in the band. There were some common ones like the trumpet, violin and flute and there were also some less common ones like the bosoon, french horn and the viola. I also did a performance on my flute. I played Lavenders Blue and Ode To Joy. I was a bit nervous but I really enjoyed doing my first performance.

All Souls Mass

Today was All Souls Day. The whole school went to mass. We prayed for saints, people who have died of illnesses and people who have died before their time like the people in the Christchurch mosque attack. I enjoyed praying these people as it is very sad that they died.

How To Make A Happiness Potion

How To Make A Happiness Potion

I am learning to write a procedural text for my audience to follow

Materials
1 tsp of joy powder
3 purple daisies
½ cup peace juice
1 unicorn hair
2 rainbow buttons
A large mixing bowl
Something to stir with
1 iced glass

A big cooking pot

Method

1. Add your joy powder, purple daisies and rainbow buttons into the large mixing bowl.
2. Carefully pour in your peace juice.
3. Use tweezers to put your unicorn hair exactly in the middle.4. Use your mixing utensil to quickly mix the potion.

5. Pour into a big cooking pot and set it down on high for 20 mins or until bubbly.
6. When it is done pour into an iced glass and let it cool for about 5 mins.
7. Drink it yourself or serve it up to someone else. 

8. Enjoy being happy!!

*WARNING* drinker of the potion will only be happy for 10 hours. 

Also may cause side effects such as rainbow skin, blue teeth and purple eyes if made wrong

Speech Finals 2019

On Wednesday 4th September all of good shepherd assembled in the hall to listen to the good shepherd 2019 speech finalists. There was a variety of interesting topics from llamas to bikes to toilets and skiers. It was cool to see all the people from different age groups stand up and present a speech. It was also nice to support the people who spoke from my class who were Jiwoo, Miranda and Mia. Miranda came first, Jiwoo came second and Mia came first and also came first overall. Well done to everyone who had the courage to do a speech in front of the whole school.

How to Make White Irish Soda Bread

I am learning to write a procedural text for my audience to follow.

Materials
450g plain white flour
1 level tsp salt
1 level tsp bread soda / baking soda
400ml buttermilk
100g raisins

Method
1. Preheat oven to 230 degrees Celsius
2. Sift flour,salt and bread soda into a large mixing bowl
3. Mix in raisins
4. Make a well in the centre. Pour most of the buttermilk into the flour, using one hand with fingers open and stiff, mix in a hull circle drawing in the flour from the sides of the bowl, adding more buttermilk if necessary, the dough should be softish (not too wet and sticky)
5. Don’t over mix. Mix as quickly as possible and as gently as possible, keeping it light and airy
6.Wash and dry your hands
7. Gently roll the ball of dough around floury hands for a few seconds to tidy up.
8. Pat it gently into a round shape that is around 5cm high

9. Place dough on a lightly floured baking sheet then with a sharp knife cut a deep cross in it.
10. Prick the four triangles with your knife. According to the Irish folklore this will let the fairies out.
11. Put in the oven for 10 mins, then turn the heat down to 200 degrees
12. Cook until when tapped it sounds hollow (roughly another 25 mins)

Whole School Prayers

On Monday the 5th of August room 6 hosted whole school prayers. Our theme was The Gift of Faith. We did a song called ‘Open the Eyes of My Heart’ and Jiwoo, Zara and Maggie made hand actions for us. There were also people who did the prayers of the faithful. Overall prayers was a big success and everyone enjoyed it.

Our Assembly

Last week Room 6 performed their assembly. Our main entertainment was a drama circle on occupations. We also displayed our mixed media we made in term 2. Some people also shared about what they put on their art and why. We all had so much fun preparing and presenting our assembly.

Cook Island Language Week

Week 3 has been a very busy week with so many celebrations. Good Shepherd School celebrates our multicultural school with our Cook Island Language focus. We looked at the culture through our reading and made fun fact files. We were also lucky to have Alessandra and the cultural leaders teach us a Pure (prayer) to sing.

The Feast of St Mary Mackillop

Another celebration for Good Shepherd School in Week 3 was the Feast Day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. St Mary MacKillop a vital part of Good Shepherd School, this is because she was the founder of the Josephites aka the Brown Joes. The Brown Joes travelled all over Australia and New Zealand helping the poor and those in need. They built schools and that is how we are all students at Good Shepherd School. We celebrated the Feast day by going to a Mass for St Mary of the Cross and also having fun with our buddy class Room 4 as we worked on a St Mary MacKillop Art project.

Hockey

On Friday we had so much fun with Sport NZ as they came in to teach us hockey. We got to do warm up and drills with the hockey sticks and played against each other in teams. We are already looking forward to next Friday’s session. Here are a couple of pictures:

Eggsitting

During term 2 Room 6 have been doing the KOS (Keeping Ourselves Safe) programme. With the programme we had to take care of eggs. We got the eggs on Monday afternoon and had to take care of them until the end of the week. We also had to bring our eggs everywhere we went and make beds for them. My egg's name was Margret. On all the school mornings we put our eggs into the daycare ( a egg carton) until the end of the school day. I really enjoyed this experiment and would definitely do it again.
